Grease Lightning

Today is the official MID-POINT for my time spent here in East Freo.  I have loved getting to know the people but I really want to get to know them even more and hopefully build even closer relationships.  Today, my partner and I, worked on the set for Construction Zone.  The theme is Monopoly.  We are building four of the game pawns to life-size!  Today's job was the car.  I have formed a bond with this soon-to-be car.  We have our arguements but I know that one day, this car will be amazing.  I have named it Grease Lightning.  I have some pictures that my partner took of me working on GL.

Why this car is automatic...

This will be a car...hopefully.

If you have seen the movie, Killers, you might get this quote.  "I am a dating robot sent here to observe your ways."  - Katherine Heigl's character

In other news, American Night is this Friday and I am pumped.  We will also cook for lunch this Sunday as a 4th of July celebration.  Let the sweet tea come forth!

Yum...

Someday We Will Know

I watched a movie today that I said I would never watch.  I hate movies where you know what is going to happen.  Especially if the ending is supposed to be sad.  Well, I did it.  I watched A Walk to Remember.  The movie will be ten years old next year and I am just now watching it.  I can't help it.  I hate sad love stories.  I have a no sad romance policy.   Well,  I finally watched it.  Jessica Falvey would be so proud.  It was a good movie but I'm not saying that it made me happy.  It did however make me feel very sappy and romantic-like.  I hate when movies do this to me!  I got on pinterest afterwards and I have some pictures and quotes that for you.

...so fashionable with the floral and plaid

G.K. Chesterton has the best quotes.

I just really liked this quote :)

I really want to make candy sushi.

Oh, and I love her wedding dress and veil.

I can say that this movie tore me apart.  I hate when that happens!  Ahhh!  I hate when my emotions are so caught up in a movie.  I can say that the soundtrack to this movie is really good.  Enough about this movie.  Remember to check my Australia tab and comment!

Pixie Dust

Fairy Bread

I made my own fairy bread, today.  This was my first time to eat and make fairy bread.  It is sooo simple and easy and tastes delicious.  Fairy bread is a common treat for an Aussie kid's birthday party.  All fairy bread is sliced bread with butter and sprinkles.  It tastes yummy!  Here is my version of fairy bread and some new ideas:

I found these on pinterest

Lemonade

It has been ONE MONTH since I left America!  Crazy, I know.  Today I want to share the lyrics to one of my favorite songs.

Lemonade
by: Chris Rice

So go ahead and ask her

For happy ever after
'Cause nobody knows what's coming
So why not take a chance on loving
Come on, pour the glass and tempt me
Either half-full or half-empty
'Cause if it all comes down to flavor
The glass is tipping in my favor

Life gave me lemonade and I can't imagine why
Born on a sunny day, beneath a tangerine sky
I live life without pretending
I'm a sucker for happy endings
Thanks for the lemonade
Thanks for the lemonade!

Now take your time to answer me
For the beauty of romancing
Is to calm your trembling hand with mine
While begging love to fill your eyes
I can hardly breathe while waiting
To find out what your heart is saying
And as we're swirling in this flavor
The world is tilting in our favor

Life gave me lemonade and I can't imagine why
Born on a sunny day, beneath a tangerine sky
I live life without pretending
I'm a sucker for happy endings
Thanks for the lemonade
Thanks for the lemonade!

I've got it made
Rest in the shade
And hold my love
While God above
Stirs with a spoon
We share the moon
Smile at the bees
More sugar please
He really loves us after all
We're gonna need another straw!
We're gonna need another straw!

Life gave me lemonade and I can't imagine why
Born on a sunny day, beneath a tangerine sky..
life gave me lemonade and i can't imagine why
born on a sunny day benath the tangerene sky
I live life without pretending
I'm a sucker for happy endings
Thanks for the lemonade
Thanks for the lemonade!

That was very girly of me to share that.  I have been watching TOO many chick-flicks in Australia!  Anyway, I found this picture on pintrest today and decided  share.

Can you say yum?  They look incredible and everyone knows that I have a love for red velvet.  You can find the recipe here.  I also want to remind you to check out my Australia tab at the top of the page for more serious concerns.  Although, a red velvet brownie is pretty serious.  Really though, please read how God is using me here in East Freo, WA.

Follow Me

Another week has begun!  T omorrow, the 21st, will be one month since I left my family and everything I was familiar with.  I can't believe that it has already been a month.  I remember leaving my parents and sister behind the security check point in the New Orleans airport.  I also left my comfort zone.  Don't get the wrong idea.  I am very independent and love leaving on trips.  I have even prided myself in that before.  It is still a pretty big step to know you can't call your family when you want and you can't see them for over two months.  I have had the weirdest food cravings since I have been here.  Today, I really wanted a Cherry Limeade from Sonic.  Of course there isn't a Sonic within the whole country.  I also miss driving a whole lot more than I thought I would.  I loved the freedom it gave me.  Anyway, today I made some earrings.  Here is an awful photo of them:

They are cuter in real life.  I really need a photographer.  Six more followers till I host a give-a-way.  Thanks for reading.  Feel free to comment!

Ring Around a Rosie

Today I played with my new fabric and made my first fabric rosettes.  I plan on making a tutorial for them later when I can take more pictures.  I do have pictures of my results for you guys.  I do warn you that the pictures are horrible!  This year at school, I will make my room mate be my photographer.  She won't mind.  So here are the pictures of the rosettes:

all of my rosettes

I plan to use these for embellishing.

I loved added pearls to them.

In other news, I am loving Australia and the people here.  Be sure that you check my Australia tab at the top of the page.  Also, I now have 9 followers.  Remember that I will have a give-a-way when I get to 15.  Let's see how soon we can get to 15

I'm in the Spotlight

Today I went to Spotlight.  Spotlight is like the Australian version of Hobby Lobby.  Actually, Spotlight is like a perfect mixture of Hobby Lobby and Bed, Bath, and Beyond.  Anyway, I spent money.  If you didn't know, my friends and I plan on having a booth at the Ole Brook Festival this fall.  We are planning to put our works of art and confections up for sale.  I had a fun time looking around and thinking about new projects.  I bought three different samples of fabric to practice and try my fabric rosettes.   I also bought an organizer, feathers, and a few things for garnish.  I have pictures:

My beautiful fabrics..

I bought an organizer for my beads and such...

He's Climbing in Your Windows

Just another day in Australia.  Today, my partner, Britney, climbed through a window.  I left my keys in the apartment.  So I got Britney to climb through the laundry room window.  It was sooo funny.  I just laughed and laughed.  A woman stopped and watched us.  She probably thought we were breaking in.  We kinda were.  Ha ha.  On another note, I am inspired by Vintage Wanna Bee's pincushion frame.  I think I am going to make one.  What do you think?  Isn't it cute?

You can find the tutorial here

We Go Together

This is another blog post of googled images.  Trust me, they still have relevance to my Australian life.

So, my partner and I are organizing a supper for "American Night" at youth group.  It will be the Friday before the 4th of July.  We decided we should make this classic Independence Day dessert.  You know that every American has had this cake or atleast seen it at a picnic before.

We are also thinking about introducing Aussies to this guy.  Is it a bad idea?  I don't think so.

I had a sleepover with a girl from here the other day.  I was planning on throwing the best all-American sleepover ever!  It didn't turn out to be the full sleepover bit.  You know what I mean.  Makeovers, truth or dare, secrets... ect., ect.  I am however throwing a sleepover lock-in for the youth girls.  It will be amazing.

I am inspired by Vintage Wanna Bee's princess inspired hair accesories.  This is her Anastasia headband.  You should check them out.  I love this movie!

*Once again, I do not own any of these pictures.

Hungry Jacks is Burger King

Today is a different kind of bloggy day.

These wooden bangles are painted by Aboriginals.  I found some at a shop and have to go back to get more.  They are so fun looking.  A true piece of Aboriginal art that is more useful than a boomerang!

I am really missing Southern comfort food.  The good news is that I get to cook for the youth here at East Freo Baptist!  I am so excited about sharing food!  The biscuit in the picture makes me really hungry...

So...I changed my cartilage piercings to pearls and decided if anyone else decided to use pearls in body piercings.  Yeah.  Lady Gaga took it a little too far.  Granted they probably aren't real, but still.  I thought it was fun to put sweet little granny pearls in an edgyer piercing.

I really really really want this dress.  I think I would feel like twirling.  I really like the floral pattern.  I do have two dances this year. :)

*note: none of these pics are mine and I do not claim them.  I found them on Google images.  Don't put me in jail!

Yum Yum

So I am sitting on a couch in Australia eating Nutella out of the jar and watching Legally Blonde.  I then had the most wonderful idea ever.  What about Nutella ice cream?  It is the perfect idea.  So, I did what I do best and googled.  Here is a recipe I found.  Yum!

INGREDIENTS

1/3 cup nutella

1/3 cup sugar

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 cup milk

DIRECTIONS

Beat together the nutella, sugar, heavy cream, and milk until blended evenly. Churn into ice cream according to your ice cream machine’s directions, and then freeze for four hours before serving. The ice cream lasts about a week in the freezer.

Makes about 2 cups.

I'm Like a Bird

Do you remember me telling you my crazy idea of making a pillow before I left for the summer?  Remember how I never finished it?   I am a huge procrasinator.  My sewer friend Jessica actually was the one to finish this craft project.  I say it was a joint effort.  I gave the idea and she did the work.  Ha ha.  The truth is that she is really talented at sewing and I am just a baby sewer.  There were three of us who worked on this craft idea and we used scraps of each other's fabric to make the bird part.  It was a way of having a part of each other.  The idea was that all three of us friends would have something to remind us of each other as we are spread apart this summer.  My friend, Sarah, is back home in Brookhaven, Jessica is in South Korea, and I am in Australia.  This pillow has traveled around the world with me.  It was a comfort on the plane (I hate planes) and I now sleep with it every night.  Thank you Jessica for finishing my pillow before I left.  If you would like to follow Jessica's adventure in South Korea, you can check out her blog Fellow Traveler.  This is how my pillow turned out:

Tonight at youth group, I will be making a gross beverage made of various drink and condiments.  We will try a pressure someone to drink it.  The subject of conversation is peer pressure.  I can't wait!  Please feel free to comment and suggest.  Here is the....

She Sells Seashells

I went to the beach here in Perth a while back. It was wonderful. I can totally see why surfing is such a big sport here. It was the first time for me to see the Indian Ocean also. The first shell I found had a hole in it. I decided I would turn this shell into a necklace. This is my first time is use a shell in jewelry. It makes it even more special that I found this shell in another country touching another ocean. Anyway, here is pictures of the necklace I made.

Story to Share

So, my great aunt (grandmother's sister) has been out of her mind for three days. She has been jerking and talking nonsense. She is in a nursing home and the test results were not clear. Yesterday they found out she had another stroke. My family did not tell me but hospice was contacted because the outlook was so grim. They were looking for her to die at any minute. The family was even called in so to speak. Today my grandmother (who got facebook because of this trip) facebook chatted that she got a phone call from her sister-in-law who handed the phone to my great aunt. She now can talk and is in her right mind. She doesn't remember what happened but is herself today sitting up and everything. The doctors are dumb founded but we know it is Jesus. Praise the Lord that He is in control. Satan is working hard at leading us astray from what God has called us to this summer but the Lord is still sovereign. We are victorious!
