Insta Five Friday

1.  I guess I have to give a shout-out to my hype girl, Jessica, for curling my hair Saturday.
2.  Jessica again!?!  That lucky girl.  We went to a worship night in Fondren that was beautiful.
3.  Then we snuck around my library's basement and avoiding doing school work.
4.  I'm tryna get my worship on and Christian Mingle keeps distracting me.  Ain't nobody got time for that!
5.  I got some sun with my roomie!  I promise I'm not nekkid.  I'm wearing a strapless bathing suit.

Linking up as always.

Art Exhibit Throwback

Well, it's Throwback Thursday in the Instagram world so I guess I can throwback to last Saturday.  As most of you know, Saturday was my senior art exhibit.  That class was more than a challenge than I thought it would be.  Gathering your four best works over a period of four years is a bit stressful.  People would judge my abilities on these works.  No pressure at all.  All in all, Saturday was wonderful.  I got to see my family and friends.  That is what made it worth all the work.

Whew!
Now, let's relax.

Cooks and Books

I guess it's time for me to write again.  I had a much needed break.  I had to focus on life for a bit and my posting suffered.  I'm very happy to report that my senior exhibit is ovah!  I am also all done turning in paperwork for student teaching.  Now I only have is finals to conquer.  Only!  It's a good balance I tell ya.

Anyway, I have some new details of my life for you!  I am starting a book club with my crazy and weird friend, Jessica.  It's called Cooks and Books.  We will meet the last weekend of each month and eat a meal that correlates with our reading.  I'm super excited and have been wanting to start a book club for eons.

So far, we only have four members including Jessica and me.  If you would like to join just let me know.  I'll probably be updating each month here.  For May, we will be reading The Marriage Bureau for Rich People by: Farahad Zama.  Because it was on sale and I like Indian food.  Nuff said.

Because I'm a Flake...

I totally forgot about the link up with the swap I just participated in.  Forgive me please.  I had the best partner ever!  I'm pretty lucky to have her as a swap buddy.  I participated in The Creative Exchange through Covered in Mod Podge.  My partner was Laura from Cottage and Broome.  You should check out her blog and be amazed at all the pretty things to look at.  Here is a picture of my wonderful gifts:

1.  Craft tape that I adore and have been wanting forever!
2.  A beautiful beaded bracelet that Laura made herself.  I love it!
3.  A container for my art supplies that I am already using on my desk.
4.  Zentangles!
5.  Chocolate.  I love chocolate

I almost didn't want to open the packaged because it was decorated so beautifully.  She put little details into every bit and made it such a joy to open.  Thanks so much Laura for all the wonderful stuff that cheered me up after a really hard week!

Check her out!

Back to Reality

Well guys, it is back to reality.  My palooza weekend was fun but I must get back to the books.  Even better: I have a test tomorrow.  History of Modern Art to be exact.  Say a prayer for me.  In the name of warm and fun-filled weekends, I'm going to recount my lastest adventures.  Here are some photos from my palooza-tastic weekend.  Enjoy!

1.  My two oldest friends, Sarah and Jessica: the craziest, weirdest, and best friends a girl could have.
2.  Meet Jessica.  She likes Korea, refugees, coffee, and rugged men.
3.  Meet Sarah.  She likes pizza, crafts, 90's nickelodeon, and not-so rugged men. (and making funny faces)
4.  We made cupcakes.  We like cupcakes.
5.  Although it looks like a beautiful, warm day, (and it was) the water was fuh-reezing.
6.  Never let me and Jessica loose in a bookstore together.  Damage done.

How was your weekend?
Any big tests/projects?

Insta Four Friday

1.  Muh mint.  You've probably already seen her.  She is now sitting beautifully in my dorm window.
2.  Look it.  My new computer background that I downloaded.  For the life of me I can't remember where it is from.
3.  This is an oldie.  I get to spend the weekend with these two: my hometown pals.  Palooza time.
4.  I gots a new phone.  My first iphone.  Do I get to be in the club now?

I just I don't have five instagrams this week.
What have you been up to?

Palooza

1.  One book down and off to another.  This is what I'm currently reading and it only cost me six dollas.
2.  I am addicted to this stuff.  Nothing says spring time quite like iced coffee.  And now they have a light version.
3.  I'm going to Eagle Palooza this weekend.  This will be a first for me.  Anything with palooza in the name has to be fun, right?
4.  I'm tired of all that minty stuff.  I'm bringing back the Big Red.
5.  Paperwork.  This is what I'll be doing for a really, really long time.  Thank you student teaching.

So, what are you up to?
Any paloozas in the near future?

Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter

I'm feeling a little nostalgic lately.  I guess it's because I've watched two notorious southern movies and read one notorious southern book within the last week.  Maybe it is because I've been planting for spring and listening to country music with the windows down.  Then today, I read this article: I Am Mississippi.  I have one thing to say.  I love my home!

Now don't get me wrong.  It wasn't always this way.  I remember being in junior high and high school proclaiming that moving away would be the first thing I would do when I turned eighteen.  Mississippi was a black hole and I was a self-proclaimed "city girl".  Let me tell you something.  You can be a city girl in the south (although, I do prefer the quiet beauty of the countryside now).  You can like going to art museums, little coffee shops with a thousand options, eating foreign foods, and still call the south your beloved home.  You can be an educated country girl.  The south has a lot more culture to offer than most places you will find.  And our folk art is to die for.

I remember the day it clicked.  I had spent almost three months in Australia.  I was missing home.  I was missing sweet tea and summer festivals.  I was missing warm days outside (it was winter in Australia).  I was missing my granny's home cooked meals.  Then I started to miss something strange.  Country music.  Anyone who knew me then could attest that I hated country music.  Who wants to listen about honky tonks and pick-up trucks, I said.  Somewhere around the fourth of July I made a little hole in my heart for country music.

I guess we are all scared of the stereotypes.  These people who claim to be open-minded sit around the discuss how culturally aware they are, yet seem to still be so darn ignorant when it comes to the south.  You know the names we are called.  My sentiments are summed up in this quote from Steel Magnolias: "an ounce of pretension is worth a pound of manure".  Think about it.

My little state with the bad rap.  But I love it and it's home.

What about you?
Where do you call home?

Hippity Hoppity Weekend

How was your Easter?  I hope it was better than you ever expected.  My Easter was great.  It was a much needed break from the school world.  Of course, now I'm ready summer.  And the countdown begins.  As for my weekend, here are some of the highlights:

1)   I had to make a carrot cake for Sunday lunch.  And I had to decorate the top.  Duh.
2)  The Easter bunny sneaked a donut bank in my basket.  I think the Easter bunny had ulterior motives.
3)  I bought mint.  I'm turning into quite the plant lady.  (similar to cat lady but less stinky)
4)  Every holiday my mother surprises me with these Pillsbury seasonal sugar cookies.  It's pretty much tradition.
