Water Lilies

"Water Lilies" by Claude Monet

"Consider how the lilies grow.  They do not labor or spin.  Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these."
Luke 12:27

By the time you are reading this, I probably somewhere in Texas.  Driving along.  Texas is a big state.  I wanted to schedule a blog post since I've been in a bloggy groove lately.  I guess this post in a bit more serious than my Nick Miller photos.  This blog post was inspired by a worship night I had a few nights ago with my sorority.

Look at the verse above.  I don't know what you gather from the verse, but I gather this: God provides.  The End.  He provides the color for the flower's petals.  He provides the worms for the birds.  He provides the smaller fish for the bigger fish.  God provides.  How much more does He provide for His children then?  His children who He loves deeply?

We are told not to worry countless times in scripture.  Our God is in control and we should take peace in that.  I know, I know.  Easier said than done.  I'm right there with you.  I worry and stress and get worked up.  We are in this together.

I guess what I am trying to say, is that next time you are stressed about whatever it is you get stressed about, consider the lilies.

Consider how the lilies grown.  They do not labor or spin.

Pray for my car ride to Texas.
I don't like long car rides.

All My Exes

It's that time, you guys.  I'm leaving tomorrow at 3:30 in the morning for the National Art Education Association Conference.  Yes, I said morning.  Lets just say that I won't be going to sleep tonight.  I hoping that I can keep up with blogging while I am there but I can't guarantee it.  There will be lots of lesson plans and free stuff.  I love free stuff.

Last year's conference was held in New York City.  Of course it was amazing.  I was able to experience most of the city's best sites.  I absorbed the MoMA.  I got lost in the Met.  No really.  That wasn't a metaphor.  I got really really lost.

I'm excited to learn new stuff, bond with my fellow art educators, and get the heck out of college town for a bit.  I hope Fort Worth is just as refreshing as last year's trip.  I'm sure it will be.

Lets take a trip down memory lane and experience last year's conference all over again.

Last day to sign up for my swap.

Loving You

1.  I'm really into breakfast coffee.  Maybe it is because it's mild and I'm not really one who likes her coffee to knock her socks off.  There are only a few coffees that I can drink black and breakfast coffee is one of those.  May I point out that I'm also really into using my k-cups now.  Mainly because they are easy to clean up and less mess.  I'm lazy.

2.  I'm craving candles.  I love the smell and the ambiance.  I'm so sick and tired of my little Scentsy right.  Bless her soul.  I'm just sick of breaking off little blocks of wax that doesn't smell good anymore.  I might sneak a candle in the dorm.  Shhh!  I'm also going to add that I love warm scents.  VanillaSandalwoodAmber.  You get the drift.

3.  I love Girls.  The end.  End of story.  No more comments necessary.  It's HBO, what can I say?  Lena Dunham is a really really good writer.  And I want a job like hers.  I need to get better skills.  I'm going to be screenwriter.  And I mean it.

4.  I'm leaving for the Art Education Association conference Thursday.  I'm super excited.  Why?  Free Stuff!  No really, I walked away from New York last year with bundles of free art samples.  Heck yes.  Oh yeah, and I want to learn how to teach the masses how beautiful life can be when filled with glitter and paint and Jackson Pollock.  Or something like that.

5.  I'm working on my annual planning of the herb garden again.  Every year I plan on my epic herb garden that never happens.  Or gets eaten by cats.  Well let me tell you something, this year it's happenin'.  I'm going to have a little mint plant.  I'm going to have a little rosemary and dill too.  It's going to be great!

Muh Man Candy

So, what's up with this new thing on Instagram?  As if I didn't already know how super lonely I am, you people on Instagram come up with this "Man Candy Monday" thing.  What a disgrace to our culture as human beings.  I find it degrading and junk but other than that, it really got me thinking about my man candy.  Who is muh man candy?  I mean every girl has someone that they are super attracted to.  Most girls these days are into Channing Tatum.  See, I'm not really a Tatum fan.  I think it's his head shape.  Not really my cup of tea.  So, who is my man candy you ask?  None other than THE Nick Miller.  No, not Jake Johnson.  Nick Miller.  The character.  The fiction being on New Girl.

Super attractive.  Am I right?

We are both grumpy and alone.  We hate doing stuff.  We have annoying roommates.  (Just kidding, Sabrina)  We both want to publish our books, dangit!  We have extremely misfortunate and rare things happen to us.  Don't ask me how many times airport security has patted me down.  And this one time at the World Trade Center monument.  We both dropped out of law school and became bartenders.  Okay, so that really hasn't happened to me but I'm not a lawyer.

Reasons that I am perfect for Nick Miller:

We both say things at the wrong time, badly.

We don't like to do things.

We both have high expectations from life.

And, we both are the unluckiest people I know.

So, there you have it.  The four top reasons why my man candy, Nick Miller, and I should be together.  This doesn't even cover "Woman Candy Wednesday".  Does anyone know if it is narcissistic to put up pictures of yourself?

Me and Nick Miller take on the world.
In the meantime, I'm linking up above.
And join my swap.

A Talking Muffin

I have a recipe.  La la lala la la.  These muffins have been sitting on my Pinterest board since the summer.  What can I say?  Sometimes I just don't feel like doing stuff.  Anyway, these muffins came back to me in a dream after I had a cinnamon sugar donut from Shipley's.  It's the perfect combination of sweet and fluffy.  Yum.

Cinnamon Sugar Coffee Cake Muffins
(This recipe came straight from Stay for Dinner.  Check out her site.  Thanks for the recipe!)

  • 1-¾ cup flour
  • 1-½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ⅓ cup oil
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup milk
For the Cinnamon Sugar Topping:
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon
Preheat the oven to 350ยบ. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
In a separate, large bowl, combine oil, sugar, egg and milk.
Add dry ingredients and stir only to combine.
Coat your muffin pan well with nonstick cooking spray and divide the batter evenly among the cups.
Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
Run a knife around the sides of the muffin and shake them out of the pan while still hot.
Melt the butter in a bowl.
Combine the white sugar with the cinnamon in another bowl.
Dip muffins in butter, then into the sugar/cinnamon mix. Let cool. Eat immediately.

Yeah, so I may not have waited for them to cool but they were so good.  This reminded me of a joke.  There were two muffins in an oven.  One muffin turns to the other and says, "Man, it's hot in here"  And then the other muffin screamed, "Ahhh, a talking muffin!"  Oh.  You've heard that one.  Well, dang.  I need to learn more jokes.

Don't forget to sign up for my swap.
Bada Tah.
